Microsoft Hololens

An immersive education summit is an event that takes place every year and is basically a conference, with many speakers where they discuss the impact that certain kinds of technology are having, and how they can be expanded. Topics covered feature all state of the art technologies such as wearable computers and 3D printing. Learn more at http://summit.immersiveeducation.org/

Here are two highlight screenshots which show in more detail what this conference is, and more specifically who and what universities are involved, because I could not remember them all. Some of my favorite topics discussed are Google Glass, 3D printing, personal robotics, and virtual currencies. The subject of this report is Microsoft Hololens, the first readily available hologram producing wearable computer in the world.

Looking like something out of a futuristic movie, this is what Microsoft Hololens looks like, and what is inside is so amazing, it is at times hard to even grasp. This pair of goggles creates holograms all around you, that you can interact with! Whenever I try to explain this to someone, I ask if they have ever seen the Ironman movies, because there are many scenes in which Robert Downey Jr. interacts with holograms while talking to his computer, and that kind of thing is now a reality.

This is what it would look like if you were wearing this product. All of your favorite apps, web pages, and tv shows would all just...appear, out of thin air, floating in front of you. You can then navigate them just as you would on a computer, but all with the swipe of a hand (through nothing but air). Hololens can do this by processing terabytes of data (that's over a thousand gigabytes!) each minute, and project an image which appears to just be floating in front of you. The future is not so far fetched anymore.
This image pokes a bit of fun at the amazing technology Microsoft has introduced to the world. The man in the picture is not watching an actual TV, it is a hologram of a streaming video, projected onto the wall in front of him. Also, over to the right side of the photo we can see a functional skype app as well as a few other things. The joke comes when we need to ask ourselves, will we soon be so involved with holograms and virtual worlds that we do not notice what is happening in the real world around us?

Finally, a video demonstration of the Microsoft Hololens and some of the incredible things it can do (this video is worth the watch, you wont believe what you are seeing!)
